Vice Gov exhorts on diversity to nurture harmony
(June 18, 2018)
Vice Gov. Arturo Carlos Egay, Jr. ably represented Gov. Sol Matugas during the 120th commemoration of the declaration of Philippine Independence at the Surigao City Hall grounds.
“Let me inspire you with the words of Martin Luther King Jr., who said that ‘Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals,’ said the dynamic presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Vice Gov. Egay asserted that ‘there are those among us who post shout outs against injustice, who foresee misadventures, and who bay for instant solutions.’
“Let them not double-cross, betray, and mislead us into trusting with all our heart that in the fullness of time, the truth will eventually become manifest,” said the determined lawyer-turned-politician.
Vice Gov. Egay urged everyone ‘not to play on the disgruntlement of those who are still marginalized, those who still languish in the spite of destiny. Let them not confuse the grassroots and repudiate the gains that we have achieved through the years.’
“Now, let us think about what we can do for our country today. And now here’s a million-dollar question for us to ponder: What have we done with the freedom that was gifted to us by our national heroes? Have we been peace-loving and law-abiding citizens? Let us look ourselves in the mirror and assess our actions through the years,” affirmed Vice Gov. Egay.
While it is true that in unity, there is strength, the passionate leader of the cabal of Provincial Board Members reminded the people not to forget that harmony and understanding can be achieved by embracing diversity.
“We take the helm by creating more opportunities for sustainable growth and inclusive progress. In so doing, we touch, change and transform lives, by instituting revolutionary, drastic, radical and sweeping reforms. Just as what President Rodrigo Duterte said when asked how to go about easing the burden of our fellow countrymen who are going through a lot, he summed it up, with this wise counsel: just do it,” said Vice Gov. Egay.
At the turn of the millennium, he explained ‘that we are living spectators and eyewitnesses of the all-out war against illegal drugs, criminality, terrorism and other unlawful activities waged by no less than Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.’
“Thank heavens, the new social order steers a nation which embraces liberty and nobility of man among its most high-valued resources. Within the context and benchmark of this long-standing tradition, we nurture our age-old values in line with our penchant for sovereignty and autonomy, and in our march to federalize the country,” said the luminary-turned- second highest official of the province.
“We are here to celebrate a historic milestone as we look back at the triumphant journey of our national heroes in their struggle for independence. We are part of the colorful epic, the beautiful odyssey of a nation which blossoms with the daring exploits of fearless men and gallant women who come out of their shell in the road to freedom.
Many of our founding heroes and leading patriots have sacrificed their precious lives, material comfort and good name so that the nation might grow.
There is no standing demand for me to remember every soft detail of our history as a people. Both happy and painful memories teach us unforgettable lessons on nation-building and love of country.
In a climate of struggles, conflicts and uncertainties, we must remain diplomatic, calm and still,” said Vice Gov. Egay.
Couple of years ago, the hands-on vice governor looked back on the full-blast piloting of Puhunan sa Pag-asenso by providing start-up capital to eligible beneficiaries.
“This noble program is geared towards change from within, because we want to extend our helping hand to those who are struggling, by replicating the best practices to stamp out indolence, mediocrity and deprivation, and make the disadvantaged and impoverished feel that they are part of the family of “Ang Bag-ong Surigao.” By retaining and reserving a build-up capital for qualified indigents, we can get somewhere, to ease their travail and wind down their tribulation, in our crusade to attain freedom from poverty.
