Province marks Buyan nan Arte and Kultura Surigaonon

By virtue and pursuant to Provincial Ordinance No. 3, s. 2014, Gov. Sol Matugas endeavors to institute and organize activities for the promotion of indigenous culture and the arts.
According to Provincial tourism Officer Ivonnie Dumadag during the Convergence Meeting on February 5, 2018, the provincial government is also getting ready for the conduct of Sajaw Siargao Festival as a special program with the help and support of the Surigaonon Association of Trained Choreographers.
A symposium upholding Surigaonon language is also put into order by members of the Academe. Dumadag said that Atty. Charlo Paredes and Steve Egay strongly advocated for a localized, socio-based curriculum using the Surigaonon dialect.
In order to effectively discuss the activities and priorities lined up for this purpose, a meeting was held to convene the Provincial Tourism Development Council at the Go Negosyo Center last Feb. 7, 2018 simultaneous with the Governor’s Cup at the PGO Expanded Conference Hall.
Another meeting slated at the PGO Conference Hall was the Provincial Arts and Culture Council Meeting where details of the month-long activities were fleshed out among council members by Provincial Planning Officer Arturo Cruje.
Meanwhile, the Feast of Saint Lourdes Procession in celebration of the Capitol Fiesta was calendared on Feb. 11 which would cover the entire Capitol Park. Lots of fun, activities and food will relish the distinguished guests and faithful employees of the province.
Thanksgiving Mass would start at 6:30 in the morning while the Team Capitol Family Day would kick in two hours later.
On Feb. 15, 16 candidates for the Binibining Kalikasan will vie for the Crown.
Cruje said that they were pre-selected from each DepEd Divisions – 5 candidates from Surigao City, 5 from Siargao Island and 6 from Surigao del Norte (Mainland).
Teachers’ Summit will also push through on Feb. 16 at the Provincial Gym with DepEd Usec. Tonisito Umali as keynote speaker representing Sec. Leonor Briones.
To top it all, a Festival Management Workshop with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) will take place at the Provincial Convention Center from February 19 to 20.
Symposium for the Preservation and Enhancement of the Surigaonon Dialect as a Mother Tongue will wind up the month-long observance on Feb. 27, this year at the Provincial Go Negosyo Center, as shown by the itinerary set up by Mr. Cruje.
