NIC 2018 bears fruits

(February 22, 2018)

With the end-in-view of waging an all-out war against disinformation, misinformation and fake news, the National Information Convention which took place on Feb. 19 to 21, 2018 at the SMX Lanang, Davao City successfully upheld the life-changing advocacy of nurturing a well-informed citizenry by empowering grassroots communicators.

Said historic event was a milestone which spurred balanced journalism and accurate reporting through complete, adequate and correct information.

Government communicators, members of the national and regional media, as well as communication experts and industry leaders, ICT partners and distinguished representatives from the Academe brainstormed on ways to stop cyber-bullying, smear campaign, black propaganda and negative publicity.

Series of digital presentations, interactive lectures and keynote speeches were delivered by motivational speakers which consisted of PIA Dir. Gen. Harold Clavite, Usec. Felix William Fuentebella, Usec. Ernesto Abella, Usec. Catalino Cuy, Sec. Martin Andanar, Rey Langit, Cito Beltran, Erwin Tulfo, and many other giants in the broadcast world and communications sector.

Pursuant to E.O. No. 100, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) was created to serve as the premier development communication arm of the national government. It recognizes the big role that information plays in fostering growth and strengthening participatory governance by engaging citizens to become more productive in the sphere of egalitarian discourse.

It should be noted that based on official documents on hand, the Duterte administration seeks to lift people out of abject poverty, unspeakable deprivation and intellectual bankruptcy.

With the Philippine Development Plan of 2017-2000 and the socio-economic reform agenda of the present leadership, Pres. Duterte continually revolutionizes the Philippine society by instituting strong, clear and sound policies that appeal to the disfavored and impoverished who are hungry, thirsty and desperate to see, feel and experience sweeping reforms and positive change.

Political will brings fairness, objectivity and justice into the fore as effective programs and meaningful projects truly benefit every Filipino from all walks of life, especially the oppressed, powerless, defenseless and vulnerable.

Participants' appreciation and understanding of government initiatives like the war against illegal drugs, hardened criminality and widespread corruption were improved with all the crucial insights and bright ideas remarkably staged toward nation-building and economic development.

In addition, participants learned the best practices shared and replicated to level the playing field, discourage intolerance, bias, hate crimes, bigotry, racialism, discrimination, abuse and partiality.

Provinces and cities all over the archipelago were well represented. On behalf of Surigao del Norte were Jun Clerigo, Jojo Ferol, John Glenn Platil, Mary Jul Escalante, Jun Parada and Ernilou Mantong.
