New Graduates satisfy military training requirements in Siargao

(June 4, 2018)

Around 120 strong civilian active auxiliary successfully completed their Basic Military Training Class 46 & 47 2018 last June 3 in Siargao Island.

First Legislative District Cong. Francisco Jose ‘Bingo’ Matugas delivered his keynote speech together with San Isidro Mayor Lamberto Dominos, Jr. and LTC Allen Raymund S. Tomas, INF ( GSC ) PA Commanding Officer, 30IB,PA.

In his inspiring message, Cong. Matugas recognized the graduates as ‘protectors of Siargao Island who will be working alongside with regular AFP troops.’

“Thank you for volunteering to help in securing our local community and in maintaining peace and security in our island. Know that sacrificing your time and energy to this would mean protecting your own family and your own locality,” said the idealistic gentleman from the House of Representatives.

Siargao, according to Cong. Matugas, ‘is known to be a safe island with no record of insurgencies.’

“With Siargao gaining immense popularity recently, and after the moratorium in Boracay with international tourists coming to Siargao instead, our tourist arrivals surged to 33% that at the moment is still beyond our capacity and capability as a tourist destination to handle.

From only a few flights last year, we have now 9 flights a day which will turn to 12 flights by July of this year. Though I have already requested the CAAP to issue a moratorium on commercial flights, the number of tourists at present is already a challenge that we need to keep up and manage,” added Cong. Bingo.

With more tourists arriving in the breath-taking island, Cong. Matugas explained the need of trained peace keepers ‘to be vigilant and protective of our people and our communities.’

“I count on you to be at the forefront of rescue operations during emergency situations, particularly those involving our tourists and during calamities. Being a typhoon and storm surge prone island, we need you to be available, to help and protect our people, your own families in emergency situations,” articulated the dynamic legislator.

Said historic ceremony was held after the graduates satisfactorily passed the 45 days Basic Military Training from 16 April- 30 May, 2018, in the Municipality of San Isidro.

3rd Special Forces ( ARROWHEAD ) Battalion , Special Forces Regiment ( AIRBORNE ), SOCOM, PA based at the heart of Purok 12, Brgy.Noli, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur initiated the life-changing event.

At the outset, the training was made possible under the command of Lt Colonel Rhoderick L Parallag INF ( GSC ) PA, Commanding Officer and 1LT Krisjuper Andreo J Punsalan, ( INF) PA, Training Chairman.
