Imee Marcos to partner with Governor Sol in tourism development

(May 15, 2018)

With clear hopes that a sisterhood agreement is in the works, Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda Josefa ‘Imee’ Marcos intimated last May 10 that a very cost-effective tourism package can be conceived to offer the best experience to both local and foreign tourists who seek to explore Ilocos Norte and Siargao.

“Congratulations to the provincial government for coming up with successful events. Siargao must take full advantage of the closure of Boracay to expand its resources. We should learn from the Boracay experience and take that as a lesson in tourism advancement,” said Marcos.

Gov. Marcos said that it was a dream come true to land in Siargao by chance. She said that many friends invited her to come to the adventure island and behold the fascinating sight of a paradise that captures the attention of the world.

According to her, ‘Gov. Sol Matugas is a dear friend who as a former regional director of the Education portfolio, spent eight years in Leyte where her mother Imelda came from.’

“I used to come here with my father, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos long time ago to espouse for the advocacies of Kabataang barangay. It’s great to be back finally after a very long while. And it’s nice to celebrate the birthday of Gob Lalo,” said Gov. Marcos.

Sangguniang Kabataan, Marcos explained, must be revolutionized, because ‘many Filipinos are asking what exactly should be done with the barangay development fund other than organizing beauty pageants or ball games.’

“We must zero in on the issues of adequate jobs, teenage pregnancy and cyber-bullying which ultimately result to rising incident of suicide among teens,” expounded Marcos.

Siargao, she said, ‘is a tourist mecca.’

“There is a need to exchange our best practices – the surfing capital of the world and the Pagudpud, the Boracay in the North. We need to exchange notes on how to address the growing problem of garbage and sewerage,” added Marcos.

She also touched upon the electoral protest which mired the vice presidential candidacy of her brother, former Sen. Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos.

“We will not abandon the fight because Leni Robredo only won with a slim margin – 200, 000 votes as against Bongbong. That is why we pursue the protest till the bitter end. Somebody in the family is also planning to run for the Senate. I’m moving around the archipelago, fully equipped with my rich experience as governor for eight years. It’s good that I’ve come over,” said Marcos.

Meanwhile, Gov. Marcos said that flights must continually increase to deal with inadequacy.

“Inter-island connectivity is very important. It is my humble proposition under the Build, Build, Build program of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to include connectivity. Traffic is not only a problem in Metro Manila. Cebu and Davao also face the same predicament. Wifi is even more problematic,” said Marcos.

Beside farm-to-market roads, Gov. Marcos also intends to concentrate on the inter-island shipping experience.
