(May 8, 2018)

It cannot be repudiated that the sticky tag Marajaw Basketball League, ‘ang pinakadako, pinakarajaw sanan pinakabibo na basketbol liga ng probinsya,’ caught the eyes of many from all walks.

Clearly, the newest basketball League Tournament which was opened by Cong. Francisco Jose ‘Bingo’ Matugas in the afternoon of May 7, happily and gamely showcased Local talents using space-age Technology and modern-day trends in basketball.

With Gob Lalo Shot Pabuenas, 15 powerhouse opposing teams vied for the big win and giant prizes at stake including lots of give-aways, clashing for the highest accolade at the provincial gym is the name of the game.

Live streaming through social media was presented by Engr. Heracleo ‘Rax’ Dumadag, Jr.

PBA Legend Ramon Fernandez, who is now the Philippine Sports Commissioner  was the keynote guest during the ceremonial launching of the much-awaited tournament.

Heralded were Capitol HEALS, San Francisco Boulders, Sison Mountaineers, Taganaan Hawks, Placer Gold, Gigauit Rhum Makers, Bacuag Hanging Bridge, Claver Red Warriors, Tubod Spring, Mainit Mapaso Wellness Resort, Alegria Greeners, Surigao City Da Boss, and those from Siargao, including the Tuna Republic, Marlins, Socorro (Bucas Grande) and the Wave Riders.

Cong. Matugas said that the breath-taking, fascinating, colorful and historic sports event is in line with his advocacy, Sports Kontra Droga.

As the centerpiece of Marajaw Surigao, Marajaw Gob Lalo Sports program, Cong. Matugas said that bouts, play-offs and matches in football, and the revival of traditional Filipino games for children of up to 12 years of age are set to make headlines.

During the press conference last April 27, special consultant Babes Calixto said that the life-changing sports event organized by Cong. Bingo will surely help eradicate illegal drugs in the countryside, particularly among the youth.

Former Board Member Romeo Cal also recalled how then Gob Lalo breathed life in the Governor’s Cup during his incumbency as Governor.
