Governor recognizes top-performing Surigaonons
(February 8, 2018)
Gov. Sol Matugas acknowledged the significant contribution of the Carascian Debaters and the Surigao Karateedo Team which harvested universal glory and nationwide renown for the province during the Monday Morning Sharing on February 6, this year.
In her message, Gov Matugas, thanked everyone who faithfully supported her so that the province will be positioned auspiciously, promisingly and exceptionally in the world map. According to her, she saw the rise of Caraga Regional Science High School (CRSHS) which she built when Caraga Region was still two years old as the DECS Regional Director then.
She also went through the rigors of fighting for its construction in the mangrove areas of Brgy. San Juan, this city at a lot donated by former Surigao City Mayor Salvador Sering.
Gov. Matugas also walked down memory lane, starting with the visit of Education Sec Bro. Andrew Gonzales after the school topped the National Achievement Test for two consecutive years nationwide as its first giant milestone.
She added that she planted the seed of excellence which now blossomed into a fruit-bearing tree seasoned with numerous accolades and colorful triumphs.
National Champion and World Semi-Finalist Carascian Debaters placed third in the over-all ranking in the recently-concluded 3rd PDA High School Parliamentary World Debate in Osaka, Japan.
Conferred with Medals of Excellence were Armie Grace Pepino, Philip Jezrael Nobleza and Christian Dale Paqueo with their coach Reymond Mosquito who expressed their immense gratitude to the multi-awarded and hands-on Governor.
Assistant School Principal Hermiet Lerog also thanked the provincial leadership for supporting them wholeheartedly.
It should be recalled that the students engaged themselves in line with the core issue presented them in Japan, and which was premised on the government intervention in subsidizing pre-natal diagnosis wherein Pepino, Grade 12, Prime Minister; Nobleza, Deputy Prime Minister and Paqueo, Third Speaker – argued for the affirmative side.
They bested the other 16 countries of the world. A motorcade around the city and a program at the Caraga Regional Science High School were also gifted to them.
Meanwhile the Surigaonon Karateedo Team was also given tribute, for winning the first-ever House Speaker Sonny Alvarez National Karateedo Championship in Tagum City. The group was also proclaimed over-all champion in another bout in San Carlos, Bukidnon.
Moreover, the powerhouse team garnered 12 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals as the over all winner in the Karateedo Championship which took shape in Bohol last February 3.
