Governor convenes offices to end pollution

(June 11, 2018)

In observance of June 2018 as Environment Month and the week that was as Philippine Eagles Week with the theme, “Ipagdiwang ang Pagkakaisa para sa Malayang Agila,” Gov. Sol Matugas encouraged everyone to truly care for Mother Earth.

According to the nature-friendly Governor, the right throwing and segregation of garbage entail discipline from a responsible citizenry.

At the convergence meeting which was attended in full force by line agencies, in cooperation with the DENR, the following activities were itemized - Tabo Tabo sa mga produktong lokanhon, tal ug inato; Laro ng lahi, Capitol clean up on June 15, Provincial Greening Day on June 19, Arbor Day or tree planting on June 25, sportsfest on June 26-29 and culminating program on June 29. Gov. Matugas encouraged the DepEd to front the crusade on environmental conservation.

According to the well-versed Governor, people must act immediately and hand in hand to live a life dedicated toward clean and green environment in the feast for Mother Earth.

On the part of DepEd, inspection of schools was also elucidated to make sure that sanitation is properly observed and to make our surroundings safe from pollution, infection and germs like bacteria, microbes and viruses with the expanded coastal clean up.

In light of this, Gov. Matugas urged every municipality to address the waste problem. She also said that the city must be lighted at all times to avoid roadside accidents. She also expounded on the 20 m easement policy in order to destroy illegal structures near beach areas, as mandated by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte

In addition, Gov. Matugas maintained that cleanliness must start in the puroks. She likewise praised the municipality of Pilar for strictly enforcing a total ban against the use of plastic, resurrecting the use of leaves and bagja instead, which are deterrents against toxic chemicals.

Provincial ordinance must also be put in force, in view of the fact that heated plastic will trigger carcinogenic effects to the body, with emissions and all.

Meanwhile, Governor Solo directed and enjoined the authorities to inspect the beach resorts all across the municipalities and the city like Mabua, Lipata, Sabang, Punta Bilar, Ipil and others, in full compliance with environmental laws.

She said that the DENR and other implementing agencies must respond to her call. Gov. Matugas expressed her gladness with the forthcoming visit of Sen Cynthia Villar and her support in the recycling and re-use of plastic and waste affluents.

In the metropolis, Gov. Matugas personally witnessed how a giant facility crushes and pulverizes plastic and waste items to be converted to chairs and tables for the use of schoolchildren.

She also promised to remind Sen. Villar on June 22 in Siargao, about her promise to help the province set up a very effective technology to deal with the garbage problem.

Another enormous technology introduced by Cong Bingo Matugas in the paradise island is dubbed eco-bricks wherein bottled mineral waters, cellophanes, styro foams and other plastic stuffs are grinded and mashed, to be converted to bricks, which are eventually used to build infrastructure projects.

Cement bricks are mass produced and in the fullness of time, these materials bring airiness, freshness and coolness as they absorb the heat of the blazing sun.
