Governor’s Cup begins
(May 8, 2018)
Gov. Sol Matugas has described the 117th Founding Anniversary of One Surigao, kicked off by the Inter-Agency Sports Fest at the Provincial Gym last May 3, 2018 as ‘the grandest celebration in recent years.’
She said that those who came in full force were generous enough to join her.
“Thank God we have wonderful things to celebrate. Unity can be achieved amidst diversity. We pay honor to our rich history of oneness. Surigaonons belong to one, big, happy family. The constituents we serve have always been at the heart of development, we make progress happen for the people’s welfare,” said the hands-on, multi-awarded and smart-thinking Governor of All Seasons.
Gov. Matugas also walked along memory lane to bring to mind that once upon a time, there were three provinces which made up One Surigao - Dinagat, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
“Vice Gov. Ben Glen Ecleo requested for the observance on May 15 to be held in Dinagat but later on, he begged off due to the barangay elections,” revealed Gov. Matugas.
“Isa ka Surigao, isa ka Probinsya para sa Kalamboan” is a fitting and timely masthead according to the well-versed Governor who explained perfectly the meaning of shared growth and having a sense of one direction to prosper.
“Let us not be divided. Let us come together to make our beloved province stronger, helping each other forward, supporting each other, in areas focused on harnessing our vast resources and developing our great potential in the sphere of Health, Education, Agriculture, Livelihood, and Social Services,” added the award-winning Governor who champions the advocacy of instituting drastic, sweeping, revolutionary and meaningful reforms in the land of her birth, the place she calls home.
Meanwhile, Board Member Geed Gokiangkee delivered her words of gratitude, saying that the celebration must be marked by a sense of unity, which came into being a century ago.
Acknowledging the efforts of then Gov. Francisco ‘Lalo’ Matugas, the young solon also elucidated on how solidarity can transform the federalism set-up to lobby for a bigger slice from the national wealth.
For the Cheerdance battle, the DepEd Surigao Division won the first place followed by the Surigao Metro Water District for the second position and Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative as the third prize victor.
Team Capitol earned the Best Muse title followed by Surigao City DepEd Division as the first runner up and the Philippine Coast Guard as second runner up.
