Gov. Matugas orders Cloud 9 open in May
(April 23, 2018)
In order to guarantee the over-all protection, welfare and security of local and foreign tourists, Gov. Sol Matugas has ordered the closure of the Cloud 9 tower in Gen. Luna, Siargao Island.
“For the safety of the public. Cloud 9 Tower will be closed indefinitely until further notice. This is to implement structural repairs and strengthening. For strict compliance. Violators will be penalized,” reads the tarpaulin mounted outside, near the viewing deck.
Gov. Matugas designated PJ Gorgonio, Sangguniang Bayan secretary to act as the over-all manager, in-charge of the total repair and full rehabilitation of the entire tower, and all its improvements, which will re-open on May 1, this year.
Included in the patch-up, overhaul, refurbish and renovation are the viewing deck and the parking area. Public toilet and traffic system will also be further improved and enhanced to make sure that all systems go for the formal unveiling.
Lifeguard station will also be put in place together with sections which provide special medics and first aid kit.
Illegal stalls flaunting in the streets which are owned by ambulant vendors will also be prohibited as they do not have license to operate and official permit. Their relocation would mean space widening to accommodate more tourists and sightseers.
No food will be allowed in the viewing deck. Plastic and synthetic items are also forbidden.
To top it all, an ordinance will be crafted by the Sangguniang Bayan of Gen. Luna to strictly monitor and regulate the entry and departure of guests.
Entrance fee is pegged at 50 pesos while the use of public lavatories will range from a charge of 10 to 20 pesos per head.
Early on, there was a piece about a Miss Universe pageant celebrity who entered the viewing deck amid the prohibition. Spectators ranted but the situation got under control as reactions went sky-high.
