Erik Santos to perform during Tri-Div Congress

(January 31, 2018)

Gov. Sol Matugas revealed that in lieu of Gary Valenciano, Erik Santos will entertain onstage, before live audience of almost 7,000 school teachers and administrators  sometime in the middle of February 2018.

It should be recalled that the idealistic Governor also broached the idea of having Angeline Quinto with the help of Globe, Philippines.

Also in the works is the coming of Jericho Rosales, Erich Gonzales and Jasmine Curtis-Smith, who starred in the blockbuster movie 'Siargao' which harvested numerous awards during the newest Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal, on another occasion.

Avid fans and moviegoers from all walks of society trooped the venue in every municipality in Siargao as well as the Provincial Grandstand for the free public showing of the smash hit which was epic proportions as it was a runaway success.

Schools Division Superintendents Florence Almaden and Gilda Berte emerged from a meeting with the multi-awarded Governor at her office last January 30, 2018 where she also revealed that DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones and Usec. Tonisito Umali were invited as keynote guests.

It should be recalled that the provincial government lauded the efforts of the Department of Education (DepEd) for after student debaters from Caraga Regional Science High School placed third during the recently-concluded High School World Parliamentary Debate in Osaka, Japan which was participated in by 17 countries all over the globe.

Armie Grace Pepino, Philip Jezrael Nobleza and Christian Dale Paqueo were trained by coach Raymond Mosquito.

In addition, the winning team from the Surigao del Norte National High School who will represent Caraga Region for the upcoming 2018 DepEd Intel philippines Science Fair this February 8 and 9 at Tagaytay City International Convention Center also gave courtesy to the results-oriented Governor who sponsored a big fraction of financial assistance respecting their transportation and registration allowance.

The powerhouse team consisted of students Lexter Resullar, Angelou Joefred Congreso and Fernando Comandante with project advisers Floramyr Sarvida and Dr. Marygrace Nanol who consulted with Gov. Matugas at the PGO conference Hall.

Another exemplary feat of DepEd was the launching of Division Project 3KM (Kaya Ko, Kaya Mo); Third Quarter Display of Outputs cum Festival of Talents recently.

Premised on the slogan, “Bawat Bata’y May Kakayahan,” the historic activity was inspired by distinguished members of the academic community headed by Dr. Gilda Berte and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Florence Almaden.

Gov. Matugas truly considered education as the bedrock of inclusive development. To sustain economic growth and holistic progress, Surigaonons, she firmly believes, especially the youth must be fully educated and trained to become law-abiding citizens of the country.

According to the hands-on Governor, teachers shape and mold the values and character of the youth, whom Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Realonda, the great national hero and pride of the Malayan Race, referred to as the hope and future of the fatherland. ‘Without the guidance and help of teachers, this country will not go somewhere, and we won’t go anywhere.’

Her reform-oriented leadership has always put premium on quality education since day one, by totally equipping school-buildings with state-of-the-art facilities and modern amenities in order to meet the rising demands of society.

‘As we squarely address the issues that we face today, we are deeply and constantly reminded that there is a need to harness intellectuals and scholars who have promising and great potential.’

Gov. Matugas fully recognized the need to elicit more creative, innovative and bright ideas from the creamiest of the crop in order to right the wrong and move forward to loftier heights.

In so doing, the visionary Governor expressed absolute confidence that the best is sure to come.

It is a matter of fact that the province has in its heart a cavalcade of highly-dedicated thinker and well-known academics who are more than willing to revolutionize the entire system by sharing and replicating the best practices that they learned from actual immersions to international events.

By enriching the new curriculum with the heritage, tradition and culture which are passed on from generation to generation, intellectuals become well-resourced and clued-up, armed with the technical skills and plain expertise that help them bloom where they are planted.

Indeed, by showcasing exceptional performances, the Surigaonon public has become completely attuned and perfectly accustomed to the rages, whims and caprices of the season.

Let us get our acts together. Concrete, drastic and sweeping reforms must be instituted which means that illegal drugs must not creep into our schools. By taking the initiative, we can produce results and go down to business.

All our hard work, Gov. Matugas revealed, will bear good results when we do what is necessitated and demanded of us.

“Let us study our lessons and do our homework truthfully and by the book in order to take part toward nation-building. Love of country is the key to success in everything we do,” affirmed the Governor, through Atty. Premolito Plaza, Provincial Administrator.
