Del Carmen hosts Siargao International Marathon

(July 20, 2018)

Governor Sol Matugas greeted the people of Del Carmen recently with the following lines: "Masadya nga ika 383 nga anibersaryo sa tinuig nga pista ug mabungahon nga ika 12 nga kasumaran sa Bakhaw Festival sa mga matinud-anon ug makidiDiyos nga mga lumolopyo nan Del Carmen!"
'Siargao Island,' Gov. Matugas affirmed through Atty. Premolito Plaza, Provincial Administrator, 'has an aggregate mangrove forest expanse of 8,620 hectares, in which, a single mangrove forest band measuring 4,200 hectares serving as abode to a wide range of flora and fauna including the threatened saltwater crocodile, is thriving at the heart of Del Carmen.'

"Clearly, there is a need for us to safeguard and protect the mangroves for the generations to come. And, to beef up our complete understanding about mangrove  conservation into the mind and consciousness of society,  we organize this highly-acclaimed Bakhaw Festival.

Festival troupers have had voiced their legitimate fears on the devastation of the once well-regarded festivals into a regular spectacle in this day and age. While there are clusters of festivals whose meaning and importance had passed the test of time, others are just farcical events with some of them fading away after the initial demonstration. But the Bakhaw Festival in Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Philippines is incomparable and irreplaceable. Its matchlessness rests on being a festival celebrating nature and its abundance. It is a very special event meant to be propelled into one of the finest celebrations and side experiences in the country that is well-meaning in terms of your great breaks in the very near future.

Your caring immersion clasps at the hinge of our soulful heritage, direction-finding and course-plotting greater altitudes in our journey toward sustainable development. For sure, we learn to breed perfect rejoicing in an exciting drive bounding with gratification, fun, and relaxation as we triumph with love.

Del Carmen has 4.465 hectares of mangrove forest, the largest adjoining mangrove haven in the entire archipelago.

For this year, let us relish the flavorsome delicacies and beautiful sights respecting the Municipal Wide Flea Market, Bakhaw Musical, Bakhaw Festival Dance, Nightly Music and Dance, Bakhaw Inter-Barangay Games, and Siargao Int’l. Marathon.

We are also confident that there will be more of the spectacular street dancing among the delegations following at the major town thoroughfare followed by stationary dance renditions.

Our string of good friends and equals serve as our crib of strength as we inhabit this planet with easygoing character consistent with the handicraft of our Blessed Redeemer. Amid fuming clashes, diminishing returns, lingering pressures and unrelenting misfortunes, we remain assured that we will always prevail because we are the shapers of our own destiny," asserted Gov. Matugas.
