With Siargao rapidly becoming as the leading global sports destination due to the conduct of World Surfing Cup in the town of Gen. Luna and the International Gamefishing Competition at the heart of Pilar, here comes another giant event that will surely excite athletes and sprinters.
For the 42 K (female category), Ruffa Sorongan won the first place, followed by Michelle Aclo, 2nd; and for the third prize, Juniela Mahusay.
Kenyan Biud Kering earned the championship title, beating Andy Toniacao who placed second and Paul James Sapico who got the third spot, respectively for the 42 K (male category).
Winners for the 21K (female category) are: Madelyn Carter, 1st; Ley Ann Ramos, 2nd; and Roxan Bumanjog, 3rd. For the male category: Elmer Bartolo (1st), Azon Pagan (2nd) and Jowil Sambalod (3rd)
Topping the 10K (female category) are: 1st - Yvette Yu, 2nd - Anne Pacamalan and 3rd - Sharon Buhayo. Jerome Congreso defeated Reign Ensanada who landed second and Rolen Tarife who positioned third.
Prevailing in the 5K (female category) are Shyra Pacamalan (1st) , Lady Carmel Litang (2nd) and Lyka Ruela (3rd). Filvine John Caturan, Wily Domingo and Francisco Toldo made it in the magic 3 for the male category, respectively.
Surging in the 3K (female category) are Lourence Garcia who was first past the post. Succeding it in the second order was Deekshah Kanyal and clutching the third place was Rianette Lapiz. Male sprinters Jocel Dulog, Janry Sabrosa and Czar Ian Palban also thrived in their category.
As the proud host of this year’s International Marathon, Mayor JR Coro organized a very successful event with Run Rio last July 14.
Mayor Coro expressed his sincerest gratitude to Gov. Sol Matugas and her better-half, Gob Lalo for the unconditional assistance and absolute support extended in collaboration with First Legislative District Cong. Francisco Jose ‘Bingo’ Matugas II.
On his part, Cong. Matugas said that his advocacy dubbed Sports Kontra Droga develops a way of thinking and state of mind where athletic exercises and physical games are paramount and effective deterrent against addiction to vices.
“An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Siargao is now universally recognized as the perfect venue to showcase international events. Our showing has improved in the world circuit, with the upgrade of ranking that we receive in the field of surfing. Let us strive to protect the paradise island so we can enjoy the place,” explained Cong. Bingo.
It was revealed that Runrio, just like what happened last year during the first-ever marathon to save the mangrove, facilitated the 3K|5K|10K|21K|42K categories.
