(March 13, 2018)

Gov. Sol Matugas recognized the Surigaonon achievers who gave honor and glory to the province during the Convergence Monday Morning Sharing which took shape at the Provincial Convention Center last March 5, 2018.

She acknowledged the priceless contributions of DepEd Siargao Division which harvested 15 gold, 19 silver and 33 bronze medals during the Carga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM).

DepEd Mainland Division also garnered 14 gold, 21 silver and 32 bronze medals while the City Division brought home 27 gold medals.

Also presented were the 23 gold wins from the National Press Conference wherein the Saint Paul University System (SPUS) made it big in the field of radio scriptwriting, production, and broadcasting made brighter through Harold Canda, the frontrunner.

Honored for their extraordinary accomplishment were the champions in the recently-concluded National Festival of Talents held in Dumaguete City and the over-all first prize winners in the National Science Fair from Surigao del Norte National High School in their highly-acclaimed invention dubbed robotics firefighting gadget with sms capability, which is the official entry to the United States.

For three consecutive instances,  Mainit National High School also topped  all over the archipelago for its Improvised ESEI Teaching Materials, among other giant distinctions.

Provl Women's Training Coordinator Florian Trinidad hosted the MMS by trumpeting the gains of her office to mark the International Women’s Month celebration.

Various activities were publicized which consisted of meat processing, GAD Orientation, cosmetology training, PGADCC, poster-making, GAD planning and budgetting, Gender Sensitivity workshop, gender mainstreaming, and other meaningful programs.

Board Member Melva Garcia also shared her thoughts on the film starring Meryll Strepp, whose role as the woman publisher of Washington Post was daring and bold as she defied the American government on account of its involvement in the Vietnam War. Strepp, according to Garcia, was threatened by lawsuits for her notorious expose in the broadsheet which earned her the ire of the American security forces but at the same time, the respect of the anti-war advocates.

Vice Gov Junjun Egay also thanked the woman teachers for instilling the right virtues to live productively. ‘Women have a big role to play in society,’ said the Vice Governor.

In her message, Gov Sol Matugas lauded the Filipina for securing their rightful place in society. Out of the 500,000 population in the entire province, an overwhelming majority of women, according to the hands-on Governor, wholeheartedly supported her which paved way for her landslide victory.   To achieve gender equality, Gov. Matugas also endeavored to conceptualize a crucial program for men to avoid bias, injustice and discrimination.

Gov. Matugas also explained the importance of war on drugs, criminality and terrorism after Pres. Duterte placed Mindanao under martial law, with her banner, salig ug laum, aksyon, katakus, resulta. She said that the RDC Charter must be amended and fine-tuned. She also expressed delight that the rice and corn production has improved.

‘Change of heart and mindset is the real essence of Ang  Bag ong Surigao,’ added the idealistic and visionary Governor. Infrastructure projects and social enhancement programs must be implemented full-blast.

She also revealed Letter of Instruction No. 1, which was issued by the martial law administrator, to monitor the officials and employees in the discharge of their official functions, so that they will not commit acts which are violative of existing policies and regulations.

Moreover, Gov. Matugas also received the plaque from DOH as champion in emergency health response, more particularly at the onset and aftermath of the killer earthquake.

Outgoing  Provincial Planning Coordinator Arturo Cruje who has served the provincial government for 41 years since Aug. 16, 1976 was also given special tribute. Provincial Cooperative OIC Mike Geraldino also had the same for rendering 33 fruitful years of hardwork and dedication from November 1, 1983 to October 9,2017.

Meanwhile, Mr. Geraldino said that he is thankful to God Almighty that in his journey, his heart is filled with enormous joy and complete satisfaction, because he has ministered for the best Provincial Chief Executive in the history of modern civilization, Gov Sol Matugas.
