Cong Bingo takes giant step for Siargao Food Security

As part of the Bagtik Moserbisyo campaign, First Legislative District Cong. Francisco Jose 'Bingo' Matugas II launched the two-day Siargao Food Sustenance and Security Project.
Gov. Sol Matugas also graced the organizational meeting at the Kapitolyo nan Siargao last February 8, 2018, together with her Team Capitol family.
Also in full force were the Municipal Mayors, Municipal Agriculturists, Agricultural Technologists, the peasant community and fisherfolks sector.
This meaningful endeavor is made possible in collaboration with the AGREA Agricultural Systems International, Inc. and RARE.
"This representation seeks to develop the human capital of Siargao Island in line with the Agri-Aquaculture aspect of the HEALS PLUS Development Roadmap of the Provincial Government," said Cong. Bingo.
AGREA is an agro-social enterprise that aims to eradicate poverty among farming and fishing families in order to alleviate the effects of climate change and espouse food sufficiency in the Philippines.
On the other hand, RARE is an international conservation group which promotes sustainable fishing through a program called Fish Forever.
It focuses primarily on a two-pronged approach, designating managed access areas and protecting marine sanctuaries of "no-take zones."
In this light, a project launching and organizational meeting were scheduled on Feb. 8 and 9, this year at Kapitolyo nan Siargao.
No less than AGREA's CEO/Founder Cherie Atillano and RARE Dir. Adonis Sucalit presented and discussed the details of the collaboration with local leaders on the fields of agriculture and aquaculture.
Also tackled were the issues and challenges facing the agriculture sector, farming community, fishing industry and coastal resource management.
As the Assistant Majority Leader of tje House of Representatives of the Republic of the Philippines, Cong. Bingo is also the over-all Vice Chair of the National Committee on Natural Resources as well as the National Committee on Information and Communications Technology.
He is also a member of the House Committees on Appropriation, Basic Education and Culture, National Defense, Mindanao Affairs, Youth and Sports Development, Poverty Alleviation, Public Order, and Tourism.
