Cong. Bingo quickly acts to urgent concerns
(April 16, 2018)
Surigao del Norte First District Rep. Francisco Jose ‘Bingo’ Matugas II squarely and promptly addressed the environmental and tourism concerns of Siargao during the International Gamefishing Tournament which opened April 12, this year, in Pilar.
“Let me assure everyone, especially the anglers, of the protection of our seas. That is why we are constructing a Coast Guard Base worth 200 million in Libertad, General Luna. We are also enjoining coastguard vessels with the in-house training in Dapa,” the good congressman said.
Cong. Bingo said that ‘he is also doing everything to deal with first response, as well as emergencies, fortuitous events and inadvertent injuries.’
“We are looking into the construction of a giant medical facility in Siargao amounting to 400 million in pesos to cater the request of our tourists,” said Cong. Bingo.
Another ‘Centralized Integrated Solid Waste Management facility is also in the pipeline in order to take care of the waste problem in Siargao.’
It should be recalled that Cong. Matugas wants that each municipal LGU must have one dumptruck and a very effective collection and segregation mechanism must be instituted for the general welfare of Siargao.
“We are exploring innovative and cost-effective ways to make Siargao clean and secure for everybody. In fact, we are doing our best to operationalize the Sewarage wastewater treatment system,” said the hands-on and visionary gentleman from the House of Representatives.
Cong. Matugas said that ‘these giant projects cannot be put into action overnight, it requires proper time element, but since these are in the works, it will be realized soon.’
Meanwhile, Pilar Mayor Liza Resurreccion said that ‘in her municipality, there is a total ban in terms of the use of synthetic and plastic materials.’
“We need to protect the environment and safeguard our oceans. Thanks for my beloved constituents who have shown their ingenuity, talent and hospitality. Good luck to the anglers. May the best angler win,” said Mayor Resurreccion.
After the opening programme was the ceremonial casting of the fishing rod as well as the colorful pyrotechnic and grand fireworks display, coupled with the singing of the “Martsa Surigao” and the “Pilarnon Hymn.”
Sumptuous dinner was also served for visitors and dignitaries which featured the best dishes and fresh seafoods in town.
