City hosts 1st International Dragon Boat Summer Festival

Another giant milestone in the field of worldwide sports tourism event successfully took place at the heart of Surigao City: the first-ever International Dragon Boat Tournament from May 25 to 27, this year.

Gov. Sol Matugas said that ‘Surigaonons must take pride in the epic, historic and colorful spectacle which is the newest add-on to the World Surfing Cup in the municipality of General Luna, International Gamefishing in Pilar town, and International Marathon in Del Carmen.’

She added that the wholehearted cooperation and absolute support of her beloved constituents made the breathtaking phenomenon a colossal success.

Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar also showed up to inspire an indestructible harmony never before seen in recent memory of human civilization.
Adjudged as  Best in Team Presentation, winning the Php15,000 cash prize was the Bugsay Marajaw, followed by the Cebu Poseidon Dragons with Php10,000 cash prize for the second place and for the 3rd spot, the Baybreeze Sports Unlimited, Tacloban with Php6,000 cash prize.

For the 200 meters Small (10 Paddlers) Mixed Major Category, adjudged over-all champion was the Kampilan Dragon Boat of Davao City with a record of 57.88 seconds. It garnered trophy, medals and Php50,000cash prize.

Bugsay Marajao of Surigao City placed second in the same category, with a record of 59.78 seconds. It earned trophy, medals and Php40,000 cash prize.

Declared 2nd Runner Up was the FSUU Alumni Dragons of Butuan City, with a record of 1minute 00.73 seconds, obtaining such prizes as trophy, medals and Php35,000 in cash.
Speed Devils was announced as the 3rd runner up with a record of 1minute 01.75 seconds, securing trophy, medals and Php30,000 in cash.

For the 200 meters Small (10 Paddlers) Mixed Minor Category, pronounced as over-all champion was the Leyteños Paddlers of Tacloban City, notching a record of 1minute 01.13 seconds. In so doing, it secured trophy, medals and Php25,000 cash.

Knight Dragons of Guang Zhou, China reaped the 1st Runner Up distinction, with its 1minute 02.55 seconds feat, baggingtrophy, Medals and Php20,000 cash.

Ensuing as 2nd Runner Up was the Rising Dragons of Hongkong, blazing the trail with 1minute 03.66 seconds and harvesting trophy, Medals and Php15,000 cash.

Bugsay Marajao took the championship title in just a matter of 47:10 seconds for the 200 meters Standard Open category, snatching trophy, medals and Php30,000 cash.

Sugbu Mighty Dragons grappled in 47.84 seconds for the second position, gaining trophy, medals and Php20,000 cash. Rowers Club of the Philippines Sea Dragons, Manila was adjudged 2nd Runner Up in a deed which lasted for 49.84 seconds, acquiring trophy, medals and Php15,000 cash.

Umagu Black Manta was proclaimed 3rd runner up with a record of 52:13 seconds, attaining trophy, medals and Php10,000 cash.
Exclusive wifi connections were accorded for media partners who aired live coverage of the race while drones were permitted to take aerial video shots.

Perfecting their coordinated and harmonized paddling flair by way of a 200-meter chase track along the Surigao City Boulevard, boat-mixed crew teams consisted of roughly 16 members which showcased the synchronized efforts of a drummer, a helm, around 10 paddlers, two reserve paddlers, a team mentor, and a team lead.

Mayor Ernesto Matugas, in collaboration with tourism industry builders and seasoned business industrialists, bestow rewards, accommodations and other incentives to major players in line with the advocacy to invite more holidaymakers, tourists, investors, sightseers and guests to the fascinating city of island adventures.
